Admission Requirements

1. BA or BS
2. A minimum of 2 years of project-related work experience

This text based online program will be limited to a maximum of 25 participants.

Technology Requirements

Students must have Flash Player software installed for Courses 3 and 4. Students need internet access through an internet service provider at 56K or greater connection speed, with the ability to send and receive e-mail. Our online courses are designed to be viewed with Internet Explorer 6.0 and above, Netscape 6.2 and above, and Firefox 1.0, using Windows Explorer or Macintosh operating systems. We cannot ensure that our courses can be viewed with other browsers and we do not have the resources to troubleshoot problems that may arise with Linux or other operating systems.

Language Proficiency Requirement

All students entering this program are expected to have adequate English language proficiency. Non-native English speakers are required to meet one or more of the following English language test scores or have completed one of the following programs before taking the Biotech Project Management Certificate Program:

• A TOEFL score of at least 500 (or 173 computer-based)
• A TOEIC score of at least 650
• An IELTS score of at least 6.0
• An ACE (American Cultural Exchange) score of at least level 5
• Completion of the upper division of the University of Washington Intensive English Program (campus or downtown)
• Completion of a UW Certificate Program in English for Business Purposes (EIBP)

Application Process

Single Review Process: The 2008-2009 program begins in September 2008. Applications for this program are now being accepted. The deadline for receipt of applications at UW Extension is 5 p.m. on August 19, 2008. After this date, you are encouraged to call 206-685-8936 or e-mail us to learn if a program is still accepting applications. Applications will be accepted until the program is full.

To Apply: Please submit one copy of the application form with a $50 certificate program fee* and three stapled application sets, which include the following clearly labeled documents:

1. A typed (250-word maximum) letter of application describing a) your relevant work and volunteer experience, and/or transferable skills and knowledge of the field, and b) how you expect the program will help you meet your professional goals
2. Your résumé listing education and applicable experience
3. Your college transcripts from the institution, including the UW, which awarded your highest or most pertinent degree. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable.

Application Review: Applications will be evaluated, shortly after the application deadline date of August 19, 2008, by a review committee designated by the advisory board. Selection of program participants is based on the admission requirements.

Enrollment: Applicants receive written notification of their acceptance or non-acceptance after August 29, 2008. Applicants accepted to the program are sent registration information for the first-term courses. Accepted applicants are encouraged to make their tuition payment early, as they will not receive their Student ID and access code until making this payment. Student IDs and access codes will be mailed out after tuition has been received.

Waitlist: When the program reaches enrollment capacity, those applicants who are eligible to enroll will be placed on a waiting list for the program. If space becomes available, waitlisted applicants will be notified and given an opportunity to register. If space does not become available, waitlisted applicants will be offered a space in the program's next academic year.

* The certificate program fee is not refundable and does not guarantee admission to, or enrollment in, the program.

Fees and Tuition

Tuition is payable on a course-by-course basis. Tuition for the entire program is $2,610, excluding certificate program fee and textbooks. There is a $50 nonrefundable certificate program fee to apply to this program. First-term tuition of $770 is due by Sept. 12, 2008. The University's tuition exemption policy does not apply to this program. Fees and tuition are subject to change.

Earning the Certificate

The course materials, lessons, case-study readings, and required deliverables will be presented online. Participants in the program will be required to work collaboratively on a team project and interact with other classmates and the instructors through online discussion forums, teleconferences, and e-mails. Upon completion of each course, participants will be notified of a satisfactory or unsatisfactory evaluation. Participants are expected to successfully complete each course before advancing to the next. When students successfully complete all four courses, they will receive a UW-UC San Diego joint certificate.
